How to Feel Comfortable & Confident in Front of the Camera

Maternity sessions are some of my favorite shoots to do. There’s something so beautiful about capturing the quiet strength, excitement, and love that fills this chapter of life. If you’re considering maternity photos—or already booked your session—here are some helpful tips to make the most of your experience.

1. Plan for the Sweet Spot: 28–34 Weeks

Timing really does matter. I always recommend scheduling your maternity session between 28 to 34 weeks. By then, your baby bump has a gorgeous shape, but you’re (hopefully) still feeling mobile and comfortable. Every pregnancy is different, though—so if you’re feeling great at 36 weeks, we can make it work!

2. Think About the Vibe You Want

Beachy and barefoot? Floral and feminine? Clean and minimalist in a studio? Cozy and natural at home? In South Florida, we have so many beautiful options, and your session should reflect you. If you’re not sure what direction to go in, I love helping my clients narrow it down with location ideas, outfit guidance, and a Pinterest board or two.

3. What to Wear for Maternity Photos

Comfort is key—but so is choosing something that flatters your bump and makes you feel amazing. Flowy maxi dresses are always a win. Solid colors tend to photograph better than patterns, and soft, neutral tones (or bold solids) keep the focus on you. Bonus tip: Don’t forget to try everything on a few days before the shoot, and bring a second outfit if you’d like variety!

4. Include Your Partner or Kids (If You Want!)

Some of my favorite maternity images include the whole family. Whether it’s your first baby or you’re growing your crew, partners and little ones are always welcome. I’ll guide you through poses and make sure everyone looks their best without making things feel stiff or overly posed.

5. Don’t Worry About Posing—That’s My Job

You don’t need to come in knowing what to do. I’ll guide you with natural, flattering poses that highlight your bump, your personality, and your connection. The best moments often come between the poses—when you’re laughing, brushing your hair back, or just resting your hands gently on your belly. I’ll make sure we get those, too.

6. Pack a Small Essentials Bag

Depending on the location, a few items can go a long way:

– Water

– Lip gloss or powder for touch-ups

– Flat shoes or sandals

– A hairbrush or clip

– A small towel if we’re shooting at the beach

If your session involves little ones, snacks or small toys can work wonders.

7. Trust the Process & Celebrate This Moment

You’re growing life. That’s pretty incredible. Maternity sessions aren’t about looking perfect—they’re about capturing your story and honoring this fleeting time before everything changes. My job is to help you feel relaxed, seen, and beautiful—just as you are.
